What Is Self Assessment? Is This Filled By Us or As Instructed by Management?

After a long time I am writing article for you all. Today I will share you one of the important corporate experience with you all. I would like to ask you some questions, you can just think about it and give me the right answers. In the corporate every year or every six months, higher management peoples are used to make evaluations of their staff. Because of this process they will come to know the employees rate of progress towards the organisation. It also helps the every person in the organisation to know their weakness and strengths. Their are lots of ways to make the evaluation of the staff but currently most of the organisations are used to 360 degree evaluation process. 

Is this really self assessment or self assessment its just like a formality?
If you take this process  serious then it will help you to identify your best qualities which will leads you to the next level of career. Many organisations will follow this process and they will identify the best qualities of their staff and they will help them to achieve organisation goals. 

Is Management doing transparent assessment?
I want to share you one interesting case study with you. You can share your opinions in comment box. So many peoples are working in corporate area but because of their strict nature and because of ego of the management, many intelligent peoples will not comes to the lime light. 

One of my friend was working in entertainment app startup company. He is having strong work ethics and having more than 7 years of work experience. His nature is very cool. He always take every task seriously and he will complete it within the deadlines. But he is little strict in nature and easily not mingle with unknown peoples. He comes from very strong cultural background. He achieved lots of things in his life. He published more than 200 international articles. Last month in his office, management peoples sent him a self assessment form. He filled the assessment form based on his own ethics. Their is a question was about is weakness or you can call it can area of improvement which he has to shown in future. But he has written NA (not applicable) in that form. As per his confidence he told that, i do not have weakness as per my knowledge related to my work. He was 100% right in is words.

But HR team called his and they given beautiful advice that, every person has a weakness and you have write your weakness in assessment form and then only we can accept it. He tried to convince the HR and his manager but they have taken its their prestige and they rudely rejected his assessment form. After that discussion, he written some of weakness in assessment form, which actually he do not have. After this process, their is a next process for promotion. His management given promotions (salary hike) to almost all the staff of the company but they didnt give a single rupee hike in his salary and the management answer is "You have not filled any weakness in your assessment form". 

After he had a discussion with his Manager and his manager told him as follows:
1) You are very good worker but you have not given any new ideas to improve our organisation.
2) You always sitting in your place and you never visited any other department of our office and you have not given any suggestions to them.

My friend answers as follows:
1) I am the one person who consider top 20 strong subject experts in my state.
2) I have already share many new ideas to our head of the marketing team, but they dont care about my ideas and for courtesy also they didnt listen my ideas. They thought, whatever they are making the marketing plans that's only work in market and peoples will like it. So what can i do for this?
3) I am the only person who is handling 4 freelancers and you have given promotions to new employees, they are not able to make a sentence in their regional language. 
4) I got 2 times best employee awards with 25000/- cash prize in my previous organisation.
5) Is this good behavior that, i need to give my advice to other department which i am not connected with them? 

As looking into the above conversation, i am really worried about my friend. The management and HR staff forced to fill re-assessment form as per their convenience. Their is no transparency in giving the promotion and salary hike as well. I feel very bad about his. Because of this kind management we are loosing many talented peoples like him. The ego of the management will not able to bring intellectual peoples to the lime light. Because of this kind of miss management many brilliant peoples left our country and they were settled in abroad.
